The Power of the Throw Pillow
I have a love-hate relationship with throw
pillows. On the one hand, I want to buy them all. I imagine rotating them out
for each holiday, season and on the occasional whim. There are so many fun floral, geometric, fuzzy and cozy options. I’ve even sewn a few
covers of my own and spent a few days mastering the popcorn stitch so I could crochet
a fabulous bumpy cover. On the other hand, the pillows never stay where I put them. I am almost positive that I’m not
exaggerating when I say every time I walk through my living room I’m primping
pillows because they have found their way across the room, somehow leaping from
couch to chair, or worse *gasp* the floor! I remind the kids several times a
day to “fix the pillows”, and no matter how many times I’ve scolded the dogs
for commandeering fallen pillows and using them for naps, they still can’t help
but snuggle up with any pillow that crosses their path. I even went so far as
to contemplate a pillow ban, but after gathering them all up and seeing how
lonely the furniture seemed without them, I decided pillow patrol was
inevitable. Their comfort and aesthetic contribution are well worth the hassle.
There is no denying that if you are looking for an
inexpensive, easy way to update a room throw pillows are the way to go. They
come in a wide array of sizes and shapes and infinite colors, patterns and textures. Mix them, match them, layer them… the
possibilities abound. Also, if you
happen to be depersonalizing, scaling back and packing up to get your house
ready to put on the market, a few new pillows might be just the thing to add
visual interest and pull the room together. While it could potentially feel overwhelming
with so many choices, it isn’t a huge commitment, so pick a few pillows you
like and see how they work together. It’s easy! Hate it? Mix them up, move them
around, toss them onto another piece of furniture. Throw pillow caution to the
wind. There is satisfaction in pairing up unexpected colors and patterns and finding they work in harmony. Accenting with pillows is the perfect way to adorn
any room with comfort and style, and you will experience the joy of a fresh room and a pleasing sense of accomplishment.
